What is Ubuntu?

Ubuntu is a free distribution of Linux which is an Operating System. Its free from the threat of been corrupted by viruses. It is secure, safe, faster, more stable and again, yes its free. Ubuntu is developed by Mark Shuttleworth and his team. Visit them at: www.ubuntu.com website to find out more and you can download an ISO image file which you can use to write an Installation CD for Ubuntu.

There is a community of people who devote there time and effort to making free software, such as Ubuntu, that other people are able to take and manipulate or just use as they feel. This kind of software is called opensource and will always be free and its source code is available for development. This allows for others to help expand the horizons of available software for the Linux platform and users. The more programs people develop like this the more we will all have available for free in Linux or in our case Ubuntu. So opensource is community developed and produced.

There are a wide variety of softwares available for Ubuntu. I have found all the replacement programs I need in Ubuntu that I used to use in Windows. Fortunately there is another application called Wine. It allows Windows software to be used in Ubuntu. There are many programs and games that work up to now with Wine. Visit the WineHQ website and you will find a database of programs that have been tested in Ubuntu with Wine. http://www.winehq.org/

My site reviews the latest available software for all categories. Video Editing, Audio Conversion, Video Conversion, Audio Editing, Media Center's, DVD/CD Burning, Games, Education, Things for Kids, and much, much more!

Please check out the featured software reviewed on this page.
This site is still under construction. Some of the things to come on this site includes Tutorials, Themes, Wallpapers and Answers for Ubuntu. Watch this space for all these and more.

Plopp - Kids 3D Painting Tool
Review:
PLOPP is a creative painting tool for cartoon-like 3D scenes without the effort that comes with professional 3D modelling programs. You can build 3D objects very easily! Just paint them in a 2D environment and PLOPP will transform them into 3D! The 3D objects can then be moved or rotated in order to arrange them in a true 3D scene. You can paint different backgrounds and adjust the lighting in the scene. The scenes can be printed, set as the desktop wallpaper, or sent as an ecard.

Mkahawa is an open-source project that builds on Cafe Con Leche or CCL - the nifty, cross-platform Internet Cafe billing and Management Software started by Bruno Deferrari.

  • Many more additional features - see full feature list

Mkahawa project also aims to provide up-to-date installers for the different Linux distros and Windows versions. (Check this website for add-ons and non-Linux installers).
Mkahawa's speed and small memory foot-print comes from the fact that it is built in C and C++.
